For my solution, I designed a widget that categorises BBC iPlayer videos depending on the subject matter being discussed. It scans through the programme you are watching and updates a list of nouns mentioned in the program. The user can then pause the program, open the widget, and click
on the noun where a small description would appear.
This is possible because the lists of nouns are tagged when they are mentioned in the programme. This list then becomes available in the search engine for easy and precise access for the user.If you are interested in a subject, the user can type it in to the search engine and find out precisely when that subject is mentioned in all programmes, TV and radio; they can
then skip to that moment in the programme.
The idea can be used across many content areas of the BBC, and the simple user interface not only allows this to work on many platforms, but also remains on brand.
This was awarded a D&AD in-book.
