black holes
exhibition
A negotiated brief. I set myself the task to design an interactive space that teaches children of eight to twelve about Black Holes.

I designed four interactive objects, based around the idea of re-appropriating traditional fairground games. Keeping them simple but using “upside down thinking” so the visitors instinctively knew how to interact with them, but they are relevant to the subject in hand.

The image at the top is the plan of the exhibition, and the image in the middle shows an interactive piece based on the coconut shy. The visitors have to throw the balls at the screen, where they would turn into virtual planets and travel through the atmosphere.

The aim is to get the planets to the other side and avoid the black hole. Depending on the velocity spin and accuracy determines whether the planets avoid the Black Hole. There will be two screens facing each other with teams trying to beat the opposing side. The video at the bottom shows the look and feel of the user interface.
